Information for patients referred to Harbor-UCLA's Emergency Department
Because of the nature of your medical issue, we believe that it is necessary for you to obtain care from the Emergency Department. Harbor-UCLA is a county hospital. Its emergency room is often busy. You may have to wait some time before you are seen. At times the wait can be as long as 24 hours.
Here are some tips to make your wait a little easier:
- Take a pillow or blanket with you.
- Consider wearing layers of clothing in case you get to hot or too cold.
- Bring money for vending machines or food and drink with you.
- Take some things to do: read the newspaper, a magazine or book or listen to music.
- Bring your medication with you so you don't miss taking it while you are waiting.
- Make sure your cell phone is charged before you go so you can call a friend in case you need something while you are waiting.
